A milanesa is a thinly sliced cut of beef that is breaded and then pan-fried to golden deliciousness. It is a very common main dish found in Mexico and throughout Latin America.

Today, I am excited to bring to you a new dish my dad and I created that is a take on the traditional milanesa. In this recipe, we have traded out the thinly cut beef with a tasty ground beef mixture. We also used Milton’s Organic Cheesy Cheddars to create an amazingly crispy coating for the outside.

The Organic Cheesy Cheddars are available in three cheesy varieties including Original, White Cheddar and Hot & Spicy, each is crafted with high quality ingredients that are Certified Organic, Non-GMO Project Verified and rBST-Free. All three flavors are great and have a better, bolder, cheddar crunch than the cheese crackers you may remember from childhood.

In this recipe we opted to use the Hot & Spicy flavor which created a delicious and crisp coating for these Cheesy Cheddar Ground Beef Milanesas. The recipe would work great with any of the three flavors though. By using Milton’s Store Locator you can find all three of the Organic Cheesy Cheddars in a store near you!

So let’s talk about how to make these Cheesy Cheddar Ground Beef Milanesas.

How to Make Cheesy Cheddar Ground Beef Milanesas

Begin with 1 pound of ground beef, 2 tablespoons of finely minced onion, 1 finely minced garlic clove, 1/2 teaspoon of paprika, 1/8 teaspoon of dried rosemary (or 1/2 teaspoon fresh), and a pinch of kosher salt and pepper.

Mix all the ingredients together using your hands until everything is just combined. Do not over mix or the meat will turn out tough.

Divide the meat into four equal parts. Shape each part into 4.5″x3″ steaks that are about 1/2″ thick.

Use a mortar and pestle or food processor to grind up half a cup of Milton’s Hot & Spicy crackers into fine crumbs. Place on an extended plate and set aside.

Take each of the steaks and press them into the cracker crumbs so all sides are coated evenly.

Coat the bottom of a large skillet or pan with oil and set the heat to medium. Once hot, add the steaks. To ensure you do not overcrowd the pan, you may have to cook the milanesas in two batches.

Cook the meat on one side until crispy, then flip. After a couple of minutes cover the pan to allow the patties to cook on the inside. Continue to cook until both sides are crisp and the patties are cooked through, about another 6-8 minutes.

Serve the milanesas immediately while hot and crispy. These Cheesy Cheddar Ground Beef Milanesas are great with side of rice, a salad or mashed potatoes.

I hope you enjoy!
