    About Me

    Hi, I'm Gemma!

Welcome to Everyday Latina. I'm so glad you are here.

This is where I share the authentic Mexican recipes I grew up eating, the traditions that shaped me, and thoughtfully adapted gluten-free and dairy-free versions that help more families enjoy those same beloved dishes.

At the heart of Everyday Latina is an online love story to my parents, my family, and my beautiful culture. It is a place where I preserve the recipes and traditions that shaped my childhood while creating new memories around the table with my own family. It is also an expression of my love for the roles that mean the most to me: wife, mother, daughter, and storyteller.

My mission is simple: to help home cooks prepare authentic Mexican food with confidence while keeping these traditions alive for generations to come.

    My Story

Everyday Latina started in 2018, but its story began long before that.

I was born in Chihuahua Mexico, and although I spent most of my life in the United States, my childhood was rooted in a traditional Mexican home.

My parents carried Mexico with them every single day. Our home was filled with the sounds of music and Spanish conversations, cherished holiday traditions, the comforting aromas of dishes like tamales and chile colorado, and the unwavering pride in our heritage.

My love for cooking began with my mom. She was the first person to teach me my way around the kitchen, and many of the recipes I share today are inspired by the meals she lovingly prepared for our family.

Food wasn't just something we ate. It was how we celebrated one another, stayed connected to our family, and preserved our culture.

Today, my husband Matt and I are raising three children of our own in Colorado. Just as my parents did for me, we're teaching them Spanish, sharing our family recipes, and passing down the traditions that connect them to their Mexican and Puerto Rican heritage.

Somewhere between recreating my mom's recipes for my own children and writing them down so they wouldn't be forgotten, Everyday Latina was born.

    The Heart Behind Every Recipe

Every recipe on Everyday Latina has a story behind it.

Some come directly from my parents and grandparents. Others are dishes I grew up helping prepare in my family's kitchen. Many are recipes I've spent years recreating, testing, and refining so they taste just like I remember.

As our family's dietary needs changed over the years, my dad and I began working together to adapt many of our favorite recipes. Together, we've spent countless hours creating gluten-free and dairy-free versions that stay true to the flavors, textures, and traditions we grew up with.

When I adapt a traditional recipe, I never ask, "How can I make this fit a diet?" Instead, I ask, "How can I preserve what makes this recipe special while making it accessible to more families?"

That philosophy guides everything I create. Because I believe recipes are more than instructions. They're part of our family history, our culture, and the memories we pass from one generation to the next.

Whether you're reconnecting with the flavors of your childhood or discovering Mexican cooking for the very first time, I hope these recipes bring a little more joy, tradition, and connection to your table.
