Cool, light and naturally hydrating, Pineapple Cucumber Agua Fresca is the perfect blend of sweet and crisp flavors. Juicy pineapple and fresh cucumber complement each other perfectly, while a splash of lime adds zestiness and brightness. Easy to make with minimal ingredients, it is great for warm days, family gatherings, or whenever you need a refreshing beverage.

I've already shared Pineapple Agua Fresca and Cucumber Lime Agua Fresca, but this version brings them together for an incredibly delicious variation. Plus, not only is it delicious but this agua fresca is packed with natural benefits. Pineapple is rich in vitamin C and bromelain, while cucumber is hydrating and full of antioxidants.

Let me show you how to make it.

    Ingredients & Substitutions

Ingredients for agua de piña y pepino: pineapple, water, cucumber, honey and lime
    • Pineapple: The more ripe the pineapple the sweeter the agua fresca, leaving little to no need for added sweetener.
    • Cucumber: I like to use English cucumbers for their mild, crisp flavor but a regular cucumber works too. If you use a regular cucumber, remove more of the peel to help reduce bitterness.
    • Lime adds brightness and balances the flavors.
    • Water
    • Honey Simple Syrup, as needed: If sweetener is needed, I like to use honey simple syrup for its the light, subtle flavor and how well it dissolves into the drink. You can substitute it with regular sugar, agave or your preferred sweetener.
    • Ice

    See recipe card for quantities.

How to Make Agua de Piña con Pepino

    Saucepan with honey simple syrup
    1. Make Honey Simple Syrup: In a small saucepan, stir the honey and water over low heat until the honey fully dissolves. Remove from heat and allow to cool.
    Chopped cucumber
    1. Chop Cucumber: Partially peel the cucumber and chop into large pieces.
    Chopped pineapple on cutting board
    1. Chop Pineapple: Chop the pineapple into chunks.
Blender with pieces of pineapple and cucumber
    1. Blend: Add 2 cups of water, pineapple, cucumber and lime juice to a blender. Blend until completely smooth.
Straining pineapple cucumber mixture into a glass pitcher
    1. Strain: If you prefer a smoother drink, strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a large pitcher.
Pitcher of agua fresca, a measuring cup, pot with honey simple syrup
    1. Mix Together: Stir in the remaining 2 cups of water. Taste and add simple syrup if needed. Refrigerate for 30 minutes to 1 hour until cold.

    How to Serve

Serve this agua fresca chilled and/or over ice in glasses or in a large pitcher for gatherings. Garnish with a slice of cucumber or a wedge of pineapple.

    Storing

Aguas frescas are best when freshly made. However, you can store this one in the refrigerator for 3-4 days in a tightly sealed jar or bottle. Mix or shake the bottle before serving to redistribute any pulp that might have settled.

    Tips and Variations

    • Rim Glasses: Dip your glasses in chamoy, then Tajin chile powder for a sweet, tangy and spicy rim.
    • Taste for Sweetness: Taste before adding sweetener, then add 1 tablespoon at a time until you reach your desired sweetness.

    Equipment

    • Blender
    • Knife
    • cutting board
    • saucepan
    • Fine mesh sieve
    • Pitcher
    • mixing spoon

    Ingredients

    Honey Simple Syrup

    • ¾ cup honey or sub with sweetener of choice
    • 1 cup water

    Agua Fresca

    • 1 medium Cucumber English or regular
    • 3 cups ripe, fresh pineapple chopped
    • 4 cups cold, filtered water, divided
    • honey simple syrup as needed
    • 1 lime
    • ice for serving

    Instructions

    Honey Simple Syrup

    • In a small saucepan, combine the honey with one cup of water.
    • Heat over medium-low, stirring occasionally, just until the honey fully dissolves. Do not bring to a boil.
    • As soon as the honey dissolves, remove from heat and let cool completely.

    Agua Fresca

    • Partially peel the cucumber, leaving some of the peel on for added nutrients. Chop into chunks.
    • Add 2 cups of water, pineapple, cucumber and juice from the lime to a blender. Blend until completely smooth.
    • If you prefer a smoother drink, strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a large pitcher. This is usually not necessary, especially if using a high-powered blender.
    • Stir in the remaining 2 cups of water.
    • Taste the agua fresca, if the pineapple was sweet enough, you may not need additional sweetener. If needed, stir in honey simple syrup 1 tablespoon at a time, until you reach your desired sweetness.
    • Refrigerate for 30 minutes to 1 hour until cold or serve immediately over ice.
