    Week of Whole30 Mexican Dinners

A Week of Whole30 Mexican Dinners

    with Grocery List

A couple of weeks ago my sister and her husband came over for dinner. We began to exchange stories about the adventures of marriage and the difficulties of being adults. Simple things really, like cooking, cleaning and grocery shopping. But all things you really have to learn to do right as adults.

When my husband and I first got married, grocery shopping was one of the hardest parts for us to learn. I wanted to keep a stocked fridge just like at my parents' house. We'd go to the grocery store and load up our shopping cart with all types of food.

For a long time the same thing would happen though. Most of the fresh produce would rot, meat was left frozen for far too long, and our pantry was full of a strange assortment of items that couldn't really make a meal.

After weeks, months, and maybe even years of this, I realized that I needed to be better about meal planning. Little by little, I got a better idea of what I needed to buy for the week. As a result, we were able to cut our spending on groceries and became less wasteful. Meal planning also provided the ease in knowing the answer to the dreaded question, "what's for dinner?".

Meal planning was crucial when my husband and I decided to do our first round of Whole30. Planning out our meals ensured we were only buying the necessary ingredients to prepare compliant and delicious meals.

Meal planning and the Whole30 also allowed me to play around with the flavors and ingredients of the wonderful Mexican foods I grew up eating.

I have been able to recreate delicious dishes for my family that honor our culture and delight our tastebuds all with a healthy twist.

Maybe I'm weird, but I've always loved meal planning. Because it is something I've always done with my husband. He typically works in the evenings, and so planning what to make for his days off is just wonderful for me. I've been on a kick to organize my kitchen and pantry over the last year, and stock up on things. Which has really changed how we've approached store trips and the typical wasted food you talked about. Now, I have a much better handle on it, but I definitely understand it can be difficult.

Meal planning still feels like a chore sometimes, but I know it's so beneficial. On the weeks that I have actually meal planned, I feel less stressed about the week and am much more productive. I can see why you love it.
