Pineapple Strawberry Agua Fresca (agua fresca de piña y fresa) is a healthy and refreshing Mexican drink made with fresh fruit, lime juice, and water. The combination of these fruits results in a deliciously vibrant, tropical flavor. An easy, nourishing recipe that's perfect for hot days, family meals or gatherings.

Pineapple Strawberry Agua Fresca in a glass

Growing up, aguas frescas were a staple at my house, and they're now a staple in my own home with my kids. While simple flavors like Agua de Sandía and Agua de Melón were favorites as a child, these days I also love exploring different flavor combinations.

Today's mix is one of those, bringing together the bright, tropical sweetness of Pineapple Agua Fresca and the berry-rich flavor of Agua de Fresa. The result is a naturally sweet, refreshing drink that's perfect for warm days and easy to make with just a few wholesome ingredients.

Pineapple is packed with vitamin C and bromelain and strawberries add fiber and antioxidants. Plus, when the fruit is perfectly ripe, you don't even need any extra sweetener, allowing the sweetness of the fruits to really shine.

So let me show you how to make it.

    Ingredients & Substitutions

All you need for this easy fruit drink recipe is fresh pineapple, strawberries, water and lime juice. If your fruit is perfectly ripe, you might not need any sweetener at all. But if you do, I like to use a touch of honey simple syrup for how easily it dissolves and for its added health benefits. However, feel free to use the sweetener you prefer.

See recipe card for full list of ingredients and quantities.

Ingredients for Pineapple Strawberry Agua Fresca: Pineapple, strawberries, honey, water, lime

    Step-by-Step Instructions

Honey simple syrup in small saucepan
    1. Make Honey Simple Syrup (If Using): In a small saucepan, combine water and honey. Heat and stir just until the honey dissolves, without bringing it to a simmer. Then, set is aside and let is cool.
Soaking strawberries in a glass bowl
    1. Wash Strawberries: Soak the strawberries in a large bowl with water and either vinegar or baking soda. Drain and rinse under cold water.
Chopped strawberries on a cutting board
    1. Chop Strawberries: Remove the stems, then halve or quarter the strawberries for easier blending.
Chopped pineapple on a cutting board
    1. Chop Pineapple: Chop the pineapple into chunks.
Chopped strawberries, pineapple pieces and lime juice in a blender
    1. Combine Ingredients: Add the strawberries, pineapple, lime juice and water to a blender.
    Blended pineapple strawberry agua fresca
    1. Blend: Blend until completely smooth.
A small pot with honey simple syrup and a glass pitcher with agua de piña y fresa
    1. Mix Together: Pour drink into a large pitcher. Stir in the remaining water and taste. If need stir in a little of honey simple syrup or your preferred sweetener. Refrigerate for 30 minutes to an hour until cold.

Hint: For a smoother consistency, you can strain the drink after blending through a fine-mesh sieve.

    Fine-Mesh Sieve

This set of sieves is one of my most-used kitchen tools. I use them for everything, from straining aguas frescas, sauces and nut milks, to rinsing rice and produce, or sifting dry ingredients for baking. They are so useful!

    How to Serve

Serve this strawberry pineapple drink chilled and/or over ice in glasses or in a large pitcher for gatherings. Garnish with a slice of strawberry or pineapple, or stir in some chopped fruit for a colorful touch.

    Storing

Aguas frescas are best when freshly made. However, you can store this one in the refrigerator for up to 3 days in a tightly sealed jar or bottle. Stir well before serving, since some separation can occur.

    Equipment

    • saucepan
    • Blender
    • Knife
    • cutting board
    • Pitcher
    • mixing spoon

    Ingredients

    Honey Simple Syrup (Optional)

    • ¾ cup honey or sub with sweetener of choice
    • 1 cup water

    Agua Fresca

    • 4 cups fresh pineapple chopped
    • 2 cups fresh strawberries chopped
    • 6 cups filtered water, divided
    • honey simple syrup as needed
    • 1 lime
    • ice for serving

    Instructions

    Honey Simple Syrup

    • In a small saucepan, combine the honey with one cup of water.
    • Heat over medium-low, stirring occasionally, just until the honey fully dissolves. Do not bring to a boil.
    • As soon as the honey dissolves, remove from heat and let it cool completely.

    Agua Fresca

    • Add 4 cups of water, pineapple, strawberries, and juice from the lime to a blender. Blend until completely smooth.
    • If you prefer a smoother drink, strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a large pitcher. This is usually not necessary, especially if using a high-powered blender.
    • Stir in the remaining 2 cups of water.
    • Taste the agua fresca, if the pineapple was sweet enough, you may not need additional sweetener. If needed, stir in honey simple syrup (or your desired sweetener) 1 tablespoon at a time, until you reach your desired sweetness.
    • Refrigerate for 30 minutes to 1 hour until cold or serve immediately over ice.

    Notes

    • I prefer honey simple syrup because it has a light, subtle flavor, it dissolves very well into the drink, and for its added health benefits. However, you can substitute it with regular sugar, agave or your preferred sweetener.
